Consultants

Administratively, the consultancy sector is probably one of the easiest industries to get started in.

Why you ask? For a few starting points…

  1. You can probably work from home to begin with, or the local coffee shop, or at your clients – so you don’t have to take offices. Three guys I know have just left the corporate world to set up together as industrial designers. They work from their homes, have web-conferences to discuss matters during the day and meet at a central location when they need to.  They might take offices at some point but there’s no rush at the moment.
  2. Your product is advice based, therefore your start up costs are low.
  3. Bookkeeping is straight forward because you have a low number of suppliers, and the sales ledger can be managed using good bookkeeping software.
  4. You can use software based on the internet for many of your business needs – data storage, emails and bookkeeping to name but a few.

If you’re in this industry and struggling with something, whether it is general advice, marketing or bookkeeping let me know and I’ll try to cover it in my next post.
