Start-ups

Are you starting a business or thinking of starting one?

Whether it’s because you need to make the great break from the claustrophobic corporate world, supplement an income or simply fulfil a long-standing dream – I wish you great luck and hopefully my blog posts sharing past experiences and industry advice will lend a hand.

Now is an exciting time…finally you get to do what you have always wanted to in your own way – and with no one telling you what to do either!

There’s no doubt it can be a daunting time too. There are so many decisions to be made. Logos, website, training, email hosting, funding, bookkeeping, location, staff recruitment and all that before you have even started actually doing whatever it is you plan to do.

Once you’re a fully-pledged entrepreneur, believe you me there’s no turning back. Even if your computer goes everywhere with you, weekends off and holidays become a thing of the past… the great thing about being in business is that if you enjoy it, it never feels like work. Although I’m not working in my first start-up company – I’ve never thought about working for someone else again and I’m now working on my third.

The most important advice I can offer at the start-up stage is research your idea thoroughly. Having good idea is terrific but do take the time to confirm there is a market for your idea and you can make money. What’s more, good research will enable you to fine tune or even improve upon the initial idea.
